The Incredible Years Parenting Programmes – Enrol now for a 2025 course!

“The Incredible Years” free parenting programmes acknowledge that parenting is one of the most important jobs adults can do. Most of us are not trained or prepared for the role!  Scroll to the bottom of this page for a flier with 2025 dates and further information.

“The Incredible Years” aims to:

  • encourage positive family relationships
  • empower parents with valuable skills and resources for more positive, rewarding, parenting

Presented by Family Works South Canterbury, these popular and highly successful programmes:

  • provide practical step-by-step suggestions to help parents handle everyday family situations
  • offer strategies to help parents manage challenging behaviours
  • strengthen positive relationships and bonding between parents and children
  • strengthen parents’ problem solving skills
  • provide parents with a deeper understanding in areas such as social, emotional and brain development
  • improve parent’s positive communication skills and discipline practices
  • provide an encouraging and supportive learning environment
  • increase support networks within the family and wider community

Topics include:

  • connecting with your child through play
  • using praise to build your child’s self esteem
  • how to praise and use small rewards to motivate your child
  • setting limits
  • helping your child to develop life-long skills through positive discipline

“The Incredible Years”

  • The Incredible Years Programme (for parents of children aged 3-8 years)

Working in a group in a confidential and supportive environment you will:

  • develop strategies to build positive relationships with your children
  • learn strategies to manage problem behaviours
  • participate in group discussions, share experiences and gain insights from other parents

Details

  • dates and times vary – both day and night programmes offered.
  • programmes run for 14 weeks, three hour sessions each week.
  • pre enrolments are essential.
  • additional individual support is provided.
  • free childcare is available for pre-school children on request (day sessions only)
  • transportation assistance is available if required.
