Experience the joy of giving
Christmas can be a joyous time, it can also be a time of extreme struggle and stress for some South Canterbury families. Now more than ever local families are struggling and for many of them, this is a situation that they have never been in before . With your help these families get to celebrate Christmas.
The Family Works Christmas Angel Project will enable you, your family, friends, business, staff, work colleagues, groups or teams to buy gifts/gift vouchers, experiences etc for a local family in need this Christmas. Only families that have been referred by caseworkers from our own Family Works service and also other selected social service agencies. These families have experienced trauma and hardship and are working hard to improve their lives as well as their families.
In 2024 over 100 local families in our region were supported thanks to amazing people in our community who became Christmas Angel sponsors. The families were so very grateful and overwhelmed by the generosity of their Christmas Angel sponsor and the sponsors felt really good to be able to help a real family in need.
How it Works:
Family Works will identify the families most in need and these families are then matched to suitable sponsors. As a sponsor you will receive a profile of the family you have been allocated. This could include single parent families, grandparents raising grandchildren and/or extended family living in the same household. The profile details how many adults there are and the ages of any children. The profile also provides some family background and includes gift suggestions that each family member needs or would like.
You/your group then shop for the family based on these requests (presents, vouchers, Christmas treats etc). How much you spend on your family is your decision. You can buy all the gift suggestions provided or just select a few – please do not feel that you have to purchase everything on the list, whatever you give will be of immense help. Both the family and the sponsors identity remain anonymous.
You will be sent a time to drop your gifts/items to the allocated place just before Christmas and Family Works staff members will deliver your gifts to your family.
