Volunteers are an integral part of the resettlement process. Volunteering provides you with a unique opportunity to be part of the refugee settlement support service delivery in New Zealand and make a real difference in the life’s of former refugees who are new to Timaru.

Refugee Support Volunteers – information sessions

There are a variety of different volunteer roles that you may be interested in:
Family teams
Teams of 2-3 people to support each family (ie. orientating them to local places in their area such as supermarket, library, schools, parks and recreational areas, sporting). Family teams will include people that are available at different times (weekdays/evening/weekends).
House teams
Prior to the families arriving in Timaru the Housing team will set-up the house up ready to welcome the new family.
Donation teams
This organised group of volunteers will sort items that have been donated and create house lots for each family, taking into account the size and composition of the family.
Office support
A hive of activity occurs at the Multicultural Hub every day. Friendly and resourceful volunteers will support the Refugee Settlement Services team in the office by providing a welcoming place for refugees, migrants and new comers to visit.
