The Homestead Heritage Project – looking back

In 1968 Lorna and Hamish Grant gave a significant gift to PSSC and the community of South Canterbury to ensure our elderly would be taken care of for generations to come. ‘A place where people could live out their lives in care, comfort, and splendor’.

The Croft was their family estate, The Homestead their home, and the Lorna and Hamish Grant Eventide Home (more commonly known as The Croft) is their legacy.

PSSC has been delivering quality care to older people and families of South Canterbury for 107 years, thanks to the continuous and overwhelming generosity of so many community spirited people like Lorna and Hamish Grant.

Over a two year period the Homestead has been returned to its former glory, acknowledging PSSC’s gratitude and commitment to the conditions of the bequest, and our commitment to ensuring we can continue to provide quality care to the significant growth projected in our elderly community over the next 20-30 years.

The Homestead (pictured) sits in the heart of The Croft estate and is registered under the Heritage New Zealand Pouhere Taonga Act 2014 as an Historic Place Category 2. It is of exceptional heritage value and significance to the people of South Canterbury, and New Zealand. Alongside our contractors, we have taken considerable care to ensure we meet the requirements of this act so that the heritage value is conserved and celebrated.
