Helping Children Do Well at School. Social Workers in Schools (SWiS) is a free service that supports your child(ren) and family to learn, grow and thrive.

Whether you need help with school, at home or with things like health services, our Family Works South Canterbury SWiS workers are trained professionals who work in partnership with you and your child’s school.

We want to enhance the life of your child and family, and are here to work with you and find ways to support your child.

We do this by:

• working one on one with children and their families / whanau
• providing group programmes to help children and their families to succeed
• helping families to access community support and networks

We can work with you and your child to help with:

• social skills, self esteem and confidence for children
• children’s peer relationships
• family relationships
• behavioural concerns
• parenting
• family violence
• advocacy
• referrals to other services

The SWis service is free for all children and families in your school community. We work with you to address any issues at an early stage and build on your family’s strengths. The earlier we can work with you, the better the results for your child and family / whanau. So whatever you need help with, please come and talk to us.
