Redundancy, unexpected large bills, illness – there are many reasons why some families find themselves in extreme financial circumstances.  The Family Works South Canterbury food bank provides urgent assistance to families we are working with.

Emergency food parcels of daily essentials are provided on a case by case basis. Families needing short-term support usually connect through Family Works services.

Local Community Support

The Family Works South Canterbury food bank is made possible through generous and ongoing local community support.

Thanks to donations from the South Canterbury community (including individuals, families, businesses and groups) Family Works are able to provide 125 food parcels each month, in the past 12 months Family Works has distributed over 1384 food parcels to support children and families in South Canterbury.

With a steady increase in the number of families seeking urgent assistance, continued community support will enable us to keep making a difference when and where help is most needed.

We are always happy to receive donations of:

• non perishable food items (such as canned food, rice, pasta, cereal etc)
• items that can be frozen (such as bulk meat, frozen vegetables etc)
• financial contributions (both regular and one-off donations gratefully received)
• volunteer support (particularly in the lead up to Christmas)

No matter how large or small the contribution, every little bit counts.
