Te Rito Networks
Te Rito Collaborative Networks are community-based family violence networks that come together to prevent family violence in 31 communities across New Zealand. Te Rito networks improve coordination, collaboration and communication between groups and encourage the development of whole of community strategies to prevent family violence.
Each network strengthens a community’s ability to effectively prevent and respond to family violence by:
- enhancing existing systems
- increasing community ownership
- improving the service response wrapped around families and whānau
Te Rito networks aim to:
- raise awareness about family violence
- encourage the community to get organised to prevent it
- carry out prevention and early intervention work including training, building relationships outside the family violence sector and promoting the services of its members
- provide an opportunity for groups to work together in complementary ways in response to family violence
- support crisis response to family violence through information sharing and collaborative case management
Each local Te Rito community network works collectively towards implementing the five key New Zealand Violence Prevention strategy goals:
- Attitudinal change – It’s not ok to hurt anyone or anything!
- Co-ordinated Service Response – All working collectively and effectively for the same goal.
- Education, Support and Early Detection – Change requires resources, reviews and reinforcement.
- A culturally relevant and effective approach – Because we are all unique.
- A commitment to Family Violence Prevention – Consistent and ongoing for all in the community.
